Resurgence of an Eclectic 70s Style

As we usher in the new year, we also mark 10 years since 2015—a year when eclectic fashion took center stage, especially at Coachella. If you're on the older end of Gen Z, you'll remember the bold, mix-and-match outfits that became a major conversation topic. These looks, featuring fringes, lace details, flared jeans, revamped leather boots and suede jackets, sparked trends that quickly found their way into mainstream fashion. A key player in popularizing this style was Isabel Marant, whose brand, founded in 2013, made waves with high-profile collaborations like her H&M collection and the iconic sneaker line. Marant’s influence on the industry was undeniable.

The start of the new year offers a chance to look ahead at fashion trends, and one thing is clear: trends are cyclical. Fashion typically recycles every 20 years and has recently been fueled by the fast-paced cycles of social media and the fast fashion industry. This specific style has increased 150% in popularity over the past year, according to @databutmakeitfashion, partially because of Chemena Kamali’s new creative direction at Chloé, seen in the Summer 2025 Runway.

This trend continues to grow as consumers become more intentional and environmentally conscious with their purchases. The 1970s, known for its “hippie” culture and progressiveness, resonates with many young fashion enthusiasts today. Social media often highlights the appeal of finding unique, quality pieces at thrift stores, or luxurious, one-of-a-kind items at secondhand shops. I mean, who can blame them? The instant gratification of finding a quality, designer piece that no one has seen before without breaking the bank and setting one’s style aside is certainly a thrill! Shoppers are drawn to items with personality, whether from different brands or their parents' closets. This resurgence of vintage styles could bring brands like Isabel Marant and Chloé back into the mainstream spotlight and other brands may follow.
