Listening to Shemar Morgan’s music, there are two things that are abundantly clear: a true passion for music and an undeniable talent. Shemar’s journey into artistry began when he migrated to the United States from Jamaica at the age of 17. Although he dabbled in church choir back home, his passion for music was ignited once he came to the states - a gift that was waiting to be uncovered.
There’s something about Morgan’s music that feels effortless. His sound is rich, sultry and deeply intentional – with each note, each lyric steeped in passion and reflection. Whether he’s delivering smooth, R&B-infused tracks like “FWK” or leaning into a Caribbean groove with “Step for Me” and “Brakes,” Shemar’s ability to switch genres feels seamless. His music evokes the feeling of cocoa butter on warm skin, a soundtrack for love, self-discovery and everything in between. And if Insecure ever makes a return, you can bet to hear his music on the soundtrack.

Morgan’s relationship with music is more than just creation; it’s introspection. He describes his songwriting as “rooted in vocabulary and the ability to reflect,” drawing inspiration from everyday life and personal experiences. “I got better at seeing myself in the mirror,” he says, emphasizing how his lyrics mirror his growth. This reflective quality makes his music not only deeply personal, but also universally resonant.
His Jamaican heritage is evident in his sound, effortlessly blending reggae influences with R&B and soul. Tracks from his latest 2 pack EP, Tempo, carry the rhythmic pulse of his roots, while his smooth vocals recall the likes of Lucky Daye and Daniel Caesar, with a touch of Skip Marley’s island warmth. His influences span from reggae legends Beres Hammond and Gregory Isaacs, to the raw storytelling of Kendrick Lamar and the soulful depth of Jazmine Sullivan, SZA and his personal favorite, Ari Lennox.
Beyond his artistry, Morgan is intentional about the impact he wants to have. “I want to affect the dudes,” he shares. His goal is to encourage men to tap into themselves, reflect on their emotions, and move away from toxic narratives. He rejects the played-out "made it out the mud" trope, instead focusing on a message of positivity and growth. His music isn’t just about love and desire, it’s about emotional honesty, personal evolution, and shifting the culture.

Morgan has no plans of slowing down. His upcoming projects include music packs and eventually a full album. He’s also teasing “Mrs.,” a highly-anticipated track from his Sono Session performance, set for a March release.
For aspiring artists, his advice is simple but powerful: “explore, build families and don’t let it get to your head. Lead with passion.” It’s this grounded mindset, combined with raw talent and a rich musical palette, that makes Morgan an artist to watch.
