SOUNDWAVE: Hurri Haran is Bringing a New Sound to NYC

When Hurri Haran dropped his song “Beyonce” in the summer of 2023, he had no idea it would take his music career to new levels. Pulling from his passion for writing, the 22-year-old always used poetry and essays to express his thoughts. He told FOCUS, “As I grew older and understood that writers are also needed for music, I thought hmm “maybe I could do this.” I started writing raps in the back of my notebooks in elementary school and eventually got the opportunity to record for the first time in high school.” The Brooklyn native shared that his earliest recordings were focused on what was popular and what would make other people happy but as time went on, he prioritized honing into his craft and making the sound he wanted to hear and be known for. Haran said, “My first music wasn’t me in terms of an individual but experiences like the pandemic where I had to be stuck inside writing, listening to my own voice and studying my music and my voice really led to a lot of growth for me.”

Haran makes it clear that he wants people to feel good when they listen to his music whether you just want to sing along or dance in the function. The “Beyonce” singer’s favorite artists right now include Ravyn Lenae and Teezo Touchdown and his dream collaboration would be with rapper, Kendrick Lamar. As his career continues to grow, Hurri Haran is looking forward to releasing more singles and an EP in 2024. He said, “I think I’m most excited about growing as a writer, seeing how much better I can get overtime. That’s really the most exciting part about it.”
