HONORABLE MENTION: Abakada
Although it's not a New York-based brand, I had to include Abakada “para sa kultura” (for the culture)! This Filipino-owned brand takes its name from the traditional Tagalog alphabet and seamlessly blends elements of Filipino heritage with modern streetwear. One of my personal favorite pieces is their v-neck and polo jerseys, which creatively incorporate a mashup of the New York Yankees logo and the word 'Manila.'
These brands exemplify the rich diversity and innovation within the AAPI fashion community. By supporting these labels, consumers not only embrace unique styles but also contribute to a more inclusive and representative fashion industry.
