On July 6, Seeing Sounds hosted their third annual music festival at Edgewood Park in New Haven, CT. The lineup included artists like Pxrry, Sibby Liv and Anyod and was headlined by Houston-rapper Monaleo.

Seeing Sounds, founded in 2021 by artist Orion Solo, is an organization centered around culture, music and community. The mission of the organization is to amplify voices within the Connecticut community and highlight the talent that exists within it. The organization focuses on increasing access to experience and works as a creative outlet and a resource to up-and-coming artists. As the organization works to propel the creative ecosystem forward, they have created spaces for local artists to shine. A few of these artists include @Speakeasy, @Markeo and @Justinesmer, and my personal favorite of the night, @Angelloor.mp3.

As the organization puts together a creative outlet for musicians, it also shines a light on entrepreneurs and small business owners within Connecticut as well. Outside of the musical talent and performers, the festival included rows of small businesses and food trucks. A few of these included a display of amazing handcrafted paintings by Ashley the Creator, with depictions of Kendrick Lamar, Martin Luther King Jr. and more. Two of the most unique businesses were FuzionSpeaker and ThirteenStems. Fuzionspeaker builds replica cars that can be used as bluetooth speakers, while ThirteenStems sells unique floral arrangements, including a Spiderman bouquet, NY bouquet and more.

Throughout the past few years, music festivals have seen a huge increase, especially after the lockdown turned concerts completely virtual. The beauty of music festivals is that you don’t just see one amazing artist, but a number of artists with different genres and sometimes on different stages. However, as the recent Ticketmaster lawsuit tells us - concert tickets aren’t cheap. Seeing Sounds’ commitment to making this festival accessible and free to all attendees highlights the organization’s sheer love for music and community. If you missed the festival this year, don’t worry. We see this festival getting bigger and better every year!
